Religion: A Historical Perspective

As people of different faiths and religions live in human society, their views about religion are varied. Some say that religion is to believe in spiritual and divine beings in the Cosmos. Some say that religion is a belief related to the Universe and its Creator. Some say that religion does not refer to a belief in God or gods, rather it is a psychological framework that shapes the lives and thought of the people. Some say that religion is a set of beliefs and cultural practices followed by different groups of people. To understand these facts, a brief account of human history and religion is provided in this article and an attempt has been made to analyze the religious trends and to find out what is meant by religion and is there is an authentic religion in the world which is logically acceptable to all the people.

Spirituality in a Nutshell

There are differences of opinion among people about what is spirituality. Some say that developing moral / ethical values in human beings is spirituality. Some say that getting in touch with spirits and spiritual beings in the Cosmos is spirituality. Some say that spiritual association with god / gods in the Cosmos is Spirituality. Some say that every religion has its own spirituality, and the followers are taught how to practice it. Some consider spirituality as an independent religion and claim themselves to be followers of that religion. We have briefly discussed all these issues in this article and have tried to determine the true meanings of spirituality and its significance in context of the facts of this Cosmos.

Religion and Obsession

It is estimated that about 84% of the world population follows one or other religion and there are over 10,000 religions, religious bodies, faith groups, cultures, religious reformative movements, etc., in the world. As per 2020 statistics, major religions and their followers in the world are, (a) Christianity, 2 billion, (b) Islam, 1.6 billion, (c) Hinduism 1 billion, (d) Buddhism 0.5 billion, and (e) Atheists 1 billion. Obsession is an emotion in which people get recurrent thoughts and impulses which causes anxiety and distress. People who are suffering from obsession know that their thoughts are unreasonable and unfounded, but they are unable to stop them. There is a difference between following a faith / religion or following an obsession about a faith / religion. We have addressed this issue in this paper. It is an important research for all those who interested in this issue.

A Comparative Study of Minimalist Lifestyle and the Islamic Practice of Simple Living

The minimalist lifestyle has risen to become a popular culture in the western hemisphere. What started off as an artistic movement has now become a symbol of anti-consumerism. Many studies have linked the minimalist lifestyle to a better living in terms of mental and physical wellbeing. This paper attempts to conduct a comparative study between the minimalist lifestyle and the Islamic practice of simple living. We discuss the similarities and distinctions between the two vastly different, yet intimately connected philosophies on living the good life. We further explore the origins and motivations behind these practices in order to form a coherent opinion regarding their similarities and distinctions.
